Lovino sighs as he comes through the front door, putting his jacket on the hook and leaving his keys by the door. For him, it's been a long enough day, what with yelling at that stupid potato bastard for half an hour, his brother whining at him for a few hours and then being dragged around by that tomato bastard for the rest of the day. On top of that, there was also the stress of work and it's a really hot day, but those idiots just made it worse. He has been invited out for a drink by the tomato bastard this evening, which he accepted, but he can only just tolerate Toni for a little while.
The one thing that will make the day better is, of course, seeing his wife, knowing that, with only two months to go until a new arrival is welcomed to the family, a day of organising the baby's room has been happening at home today. Well, that was what he thought at least.
As he approaches the lounge door, he can hear... sobbing? Instantly concerned, he rushes through the door to see you sat on the couch, hands covering your face. He walks over to you, frowning as he says, "________, bella, what's wrong?!"
You look up, eyes still watery, as he sits down next to you, and you put your arms around him, burying your face in his shoulder.
"Is it the baby?! You're not hurt, are you?!" he asks, desperately.
You shake your head at both questions and sit up again, wiping your eyes gently with your top, exposing your rounded stomach quickly before you tug it back down again.
"________, tell me what's wrong, dammit!" he says, putting his hands on your shoulders.
You sniff and mutter, "I killed a moth."
"What?" he asks, checking that he heard you right.
"I killed a moth!" you tell him, louder now, sounding very distressed about the situation as more tears stream down your face.
"...A moth? As in one of those little annoying flying things?"
You nod and hug him tightly again, making the effort to stop crying as you explain, "I had the door open, and he flew inside. He was really big and I wanted to put him back outside because he might have a family or something, and I went to put a cup over him and I cut his head off by accident!" Re-telling the incident only makes you sadder, pointing a shaky hand at a napkin on the table that you used to cover up the be-headed moth with.
Your bewildered husband frowns as he lifts the corner of the napkin to see the tragedy. It is a big moth, but even so, it's just a moth!
Being the compassionate person Lovino is, he bites his lip to stop himself from laughing one of his rare laughs, which, of course, doesn't work so well and a laugh manages to escape him.
"Oh, ________, it's just a moth! I thought you were hurt!" he says, shaking his head, "Nothing to worry about!"
You return his laughter with the harshest glare he's ever seen you give anyone, let alone him.
"Just a moth...? Just a moth?! Lovino, it was a moth! I killed it with my own hands and a cup! Chopped his head off! I'm a horrible human being and you're laughing!" you start to scream at him, loudly. He tries to take your hands in his, but you pull away and growl, "He might have had a family and everything and you're laughing! I just killed him!"
"________, come on, now," he tries, but you stand up and go into the kitchen, yelling.
"Leave me alone and go out with Toni or somebody! I don't want to see you any more today, you ass!"
"________, it was a fucking moth! It's not like you killed a person!" he follows you to the door of the kitchen and you step towards him, shrinking the gap between you so that you can start to yell again, your round belly only an inch or so from his flat one.
"I killed something and you're being an absolute jerk! Get out of my house, NOW! I hate you so much sometimes! Leave me alone!"
You look so mad at him that he decides to give you some time to cool off by yourself. Even though he should have replied calmly, his short temper didn't help and he ended up yelling back, "Fine! I'm going out to the bar with Toni seeing as you can't stand the sight of me, even though it's actually OUR house!"
And with that, he leaves the house, snatching up his keys. As he opens the door he can hear you burst into a fresh flood of tears, making him sigh and just leave you to it, debating on whether to go back but deciding against it when he thinks of the rage he might recieve.
Antonio and Feliciano laugh as they listen to Lovino explain what's just happened at home between the two of you.
"Oh, Lovi, it sounds like she was really sad about this moth," Toni says,
"She was! And it's so fucking stupid! Who cries that much over a moth?! You know what the usual ________ is like, she'd just wave it off as an accident and get on with the day! ...I can't wait until this baby is born because these mood swings suck!" he rants, sliding his glass back towards the barkeeper seeing as he walked here and can afford another drink.
"She didn't seem to bad yesterday when I saw her," Feliciano says, thinking about it.
"I know, and she was clinging onto my waist this morning begging me not to leave because she would miss me too much. She forced me to sleep on the couch the other night because she was mad at something and now she's kicked me out-- well, I was going anyway, but even so, she didn't want me there."
"She's just sad! You shouldn't have yelled at her..."
He blushes lightly at this, knowing his brother is right and that yelling back wasn't exactly the best thing to do.
"I know," he admits, sipping from his re-filled glass, "I suppose I'd better apologise when I get back."
"Si, sounds like a plan," Toni agrees, nodding. "I know what you mean, though, it was just a moth," the Spaniard mutters before he starts to laugh, quietly, again.
It's late when Lovino decides to return home and see what mood you're choosing for the night.
He checks the kitchen first, noticing that the moth's napkin is gone as he passes through the lounge.
The next thing he sees is a note on the counter by the sink: 'Dinner in the fridge. Love you xx' with a little heart on the corner of the paper. He smiles gently and checks the fridge to find a plate of pasta. So, hopefully you're not still mad at him seeing as you cooked for him. He folds the note up and slides it into his pocket as he puts the pasta in the microwave. He makes the decision now to never mention the moth again, hoping this is just a one day thing.
Once he's eaten something, he heads up the stairs slowly and quietly, assuming you're sleeping. When he slowly opens the door, he finds that you are, in fact, asleep, hair spread out around you on the pillow. You look peaceful, so he prays that he won't wake you up.
Taking his clothes off, he looks for his PJs, but finds you're actually sleeping on them, so it looks like he's in his boxers for tonight.
He carefully slides into bed next to you and, after a few minutes of lying there, quietly, he feels your arm slide around him and you cuddle up to him.
"Lovi," you whisper.
"Si, bella, I'm home now," he tells you, managing to see, through the dark, your eyes open slightly to look at him, a smile finding it's way to your lips.
"I'm sorry," you tell him, quietly, hugging him with one arm as tightly as you can.
"No, you don't need to be sorry, but I'm sorry, too," he replies, "Let's get some sleep, si?"
You nod and sigh, sleepily, going back to sleep, much to Lovino's relief so he can rest peacefully, too.
"You've not been listening to me at all! For gods' sake, Lovino!"
Still not entirely sure what he has done this time, he rolls his eyes, knowing that last night's apology wasn't going to last long. His usual grumpy attitude was no match to your current one. There was one thing he was sure of though, even though he has two more months until you're hopefully back to normal - mood swings suck.
