You grin as you notice your best friend, Gilbert, sat on a bench by the door to the playground. You have just been let out of class and you always meet him on the bench if you get separated in everyone’s mad rush to get outside or if your classes before your break are different. You’ve been best friends since you were so young, always spending every day together, most of the time with Francis and Antonio hanging around with you, too.
“Hey, Gil!” you say, cheerily, still grinning. You haven’t seen him at all this morning, yet.
“Hallo, ________,” he replies, smiling gently.
He seems weirdly downbeat compared to his usual self, so you nudge him gently, “Are you okay?”
“Ja, of course. Meine Mutter is having zhe baby,” he says, “I’m going to be a big bruder vhen I get home.”
You wrap your arms around him and grin, “That’s great, Gil!”
“Yep. Vell, zhat’s if zhe baby is here by zhe time I get home. Meine un-awesome parents made me come to school, so I don’t know vhat’s going on at all!” he whines, throwing his arms up in the air dramatically, “And not only zhat, I’m a little worried…”
“What about?” you ask, slipping your hand into his.
“…I don’t know how to be a…” his voice trails off so much that his mumbles are inaudible.
“What?” you say.
“I don’t know how to be a big bruder. I’m vorried zhat I von’t be good enough.”
You raise your eyebrows and smirk, asking in mock shock, “Really? The awesome Gilbert Beilschmidt is worried about becoming a big brother?!”
“Ja, vell, you vouldn’t know, ________. I hope zhat I’ll be a good big bruder…”
You put your arm around him, smiling at him comfortingly, and then you tell him, “Of course you’ll be a good big brother. You could always ask people what it’s like being a big brother.”
“Yeah, I- …Wait, what do you mean?”
You shrug, “Well, he or she is gonna look up to you. You need to look after him or her when they arrive. Then you also get to do all the fun stuff. You can ask people that already have little brothers or sisters like… Lukas? …and Arthur! Anyway, ask them what it’s like to be a big brother.”
He nods, enthusiastically, his smile growing again, “Being a big brother sounds like an awesome job! Perfect for the awesome me! I’ve just gotta learn how to be the most awesome big brother. Let’s go ask people!” He suddenly snatches your hand and drags you after him towards the playground.
Lukas is hanging around with those other three Nordic kids. He’s got a little brother and he’s the first person Gilbert sees.
“Hey, Lukas,” you say. He looks up from whatever book the four of them were looking at and nods a hello at you.
“Uhm, listen, can we speak to you for a sec?” you ask after a short silence. The Norwegian stands up and follows you away from the others, that Swedish kid – you think his name is Berwald – staring after you as you go, his creepy gaze making you feel uncomfortable.
“Is something the matter?” he finally says, looking at both you and Gilbert.
You keep Gilbert quiet as you know he’d probably say the wrong sort of thing, so you ask him instead, “Gilbert’s about to become a big brother and he wants to know what it’s like, so we thought we’d ask you because, y’know, you’ve got your little brother… Emil?”
Lukas chuckles quietly, “Ah, my little brother.” It sounds as if he enjoys to her the words ‘big brother’ and ‘little brother’, which makes you look at Gilbert with a confused expression. Lukas continues, “He denies the fact I’m his big brother. He won’t even call me big brother.”
“Oh,” Gilbert says, “Well, does zhat mean you don’t do anyzhing vith him?”
“No, I look after him and play games with him and stuff,” Lukas replies with a shrug, “He just doesn’t like to call me his big brother. He keeps to himself, anyway.”
“…Okay…” you say. You realise that this conversation isn’t really going anywhere, so you decide to end it, “Well, thanks for that.”
“Ja, danke, Lukas,” Gilbert says, nodding, “See you later, zhen.”
Lukas nods again and says, “You’re welcome.” And with that, he walks back to join the Nordic kids again.
You walk away and out of Lukas’ earshot before you smirk at each other. Gilbert says, “Zhat vas veird. And not very helpful. Vell, now I know zhat zhe baby could hate me or deny zhat I’m it’s bruder.” He looks sad about this, actually considering being hated by his little brother or sister.
“It’s not gonna hate you, idiot!” you say, shaking your head.
Arthur is the next person you come across. He’s sat underneath the big tree with Francis, but the Brit is looking as if he’s trying to block him out.
“Onhonhonhon, look who it is! Bonjour, mon ami,” Francis says to Gilbert, grinning up at his good friend.
“Hey, Francis,” Gibert says, giving him a playful punch.
“I guess you ‘aven’t ‘eard anyzhing from your parents?”
“Nein…” Gilbert says, sadly, as you both sit down by him and Arthur.
“What’s wrong?” Arthur asks curiously.
“Gilbert’s mother’s having a baby, like, right now,” you explain, “and he’s annoyed because his parents still sent him to school.”
“Ah, I see,” Arthur nods, “My parents were the same when they had Peter.”
Gilbert looks up at him, “Ja? So, vhat did you do?”
Arthur shrugs and leans back against the tree, “I just got on with the day. There wasn’t anything I could do.”
Gilbert thinks about this for a moment, pulling grass out of the ground and making a little pile in front of him, but then he asks, “Arzhur, vhat’s it like, being a big brozher?”
Arthur laughs, “Ah, there’s nothing to it, really. You’ve just got to be there for your brother or sister. Not that I need to be there for mine. He’s only a baby.”
“Are you worried, mon ami?” Francis asks with an amused smile.
“Nein!” he shakes his head, furiously.
“Yes he is,” you say, “Don’t lie, Gil. The truth is clear on your face.”
Francis puts his arm around his friend’s neck, “Oh, Gilbert, no need to worry. You’re going to be… awesome!”
See,” you say with a big grin, “Now, all you need to do is wait, okay?”
You all return to class when the bell rings and the rest of the day is pretty quiet. Gilbert seems to be a bit distant during classes, but that’s pretty understandable considering the fact he has no idea what’s going on.
That is, until the last lesson of the day. The two of you sit together at the front of the room in math when a woman you recognize to be the school receptionist comes over to kneel in front of your desk.
“Gilbert, your parents just called me,” she says, “They told me to tell you that everything’s okay, and your mother and the baby are doing good.”
Gilbert’s sigh of relief is heavy as he rests his head on your shoulder.
“________’s mother is going to take you home today, okay?” she finishes. After receiving a nod from Gilbert, she smiles and leaves the room.
You grin at Gilbert, “Now, that is awesome, Gil.”
“I feel so much better, now,” he tells you.
So, at the end of school, the two of you leave to greet your mother and get taken to Gilbert’s house.
“I’ve bought these for the baby,” your mother tells you, holding up a tiny yellow onsie and a plush puppy toy.
“They’re so cute,” you say, taking them from her, “Are we going to see the baby, too?”
“If it’s okay,” she replies as the three of you get out of the car. Gilbert races up to the front door and knocks as you follow him. Gerhart – Gilbert’s father – opens the door and gives you all a gentle smile.
“Hallo, (mother’s name), ________, Gilbert. Danke for bringing him home,” he says.
“Vati, vhere is Mutti und zhe baby?!” Gilbert asks, full of enthusiasm.
“Calm down, boy. Zhey’re upstairs. Keep your voice down.” Gerhart lets the three of you inside and Gilbert throws his bag down before grabbing your hand and taking you upstairs. You stop him from barging right in, just in case his mother is asleep, knocking quietly first.
“Come in,” comes the reply from the other side of the door. You push it open gently and see Gilbert’s mother sat up in the bed, cradling the baby wrapped in a blue blanket.
Gilbert approaches his mother with a smile, not letting go of your hand as he says, “Hallo, mutti.”
He’s surprisingly quiet and you can see the relief of his mother’s face at the fact he isn’t being loud.
“Hallo, Gilbert. Hallo, ________,” she says with a smile. As he sits at the edge of the bed, she offers the tiny baby to him, “Here, Gilbert, meet your little bruder, Ludwig.”
Gilbert’s eyes widen as he slips his hand from yours and, ever so carefully, takes the baby in his arms. His mother keeps her arms underneath the baby at first, but when she realises he has a safe grip on him, she leans back.
Your mother comes upstairs with Gerhart and says, “Hey, how are you feeling?”
“Good, danke. Much better zhan vhen I had Gilbert,” she replies.
As they have a conversation, you sit next to Gilbert and listen to him speaking to him new little brother, “Hallo, Ludwig. I’m your big bruder, Gilbert.”
You grin, “He’s so cute, Gil.”
“I know, he’s awesome,” he agrees, nodding, “Maybe even as awesome as me.”
You giggle, “No one’s as awesome as you.”
“Ja, because I am zhe most awesome person ever! …Don’t vorry, Ludwig. I’m going to be zhe most awesome big bruder ever.”

~*~ Big ol’ time skip! ~*~

“Hey, Ludwig! Happy birthday,” you say, walking over to the younger brother sitting on the couch and wrapping your arms around his shoulders and handing him a card. You have just woken up and found Gilbert’s side of the bed empty, so you decided to get up to see if Ludwig was awake, too.
“Danke, ________,” he says, smiling at you, gently.
“Twenty-one already,” Gilbert says, putting his arm around you.
“Ah, don’t worry, Lud, you’re still a baby,” you say with a laugh, running a hand through Gilbert’s hair, “Unlike us. Gil, you do realise this means we’re getting, like, old and stuff.”
“I know! It’s all West’s fault,” Gilbert says, kissing your cheek.
Ludwig rolls his eyes and stands up, “Vhy is it always my fault?”
Gilbert grins, “Because, little bruder, zhat is vhat you get for being zhe little bruder. You get to take zhe blame for everyzhing that goes wrong and everyzhing zhat is my fault. Not zhat you’re much of a little bruder now. I remember vhen you vere still cute.”
You join in with Gilbert’s grinning as you say, “Yeah, so do I. When you actually were little. Look at you now, Mr. Muscles!” You poke his bicep, playfully and Gilbert clears his throat, practically thrusting his own arm towards you. You laugh, “Oh, Gilbert, are you jealous?!”
“Nein! I vas just… making a point.”
“Okay… Anyway, we’re going out tonight to celebrate, right?”
“Ja, of course!” Gilbert answers for his brother, “Ve’re taking him out drinking! He’s legal, now.”
“I don’t vant to make a big deal tonight,” Ludwig says.
You and Gilbert stare at him, until Gilbert says, “Don’t be stupid, West! You’re coming to a bar with me, ________, Kiku, Feliciano and a bunch of other people!”
“Yeah, Ludwig! You’ve gotta celebrate in style!” you say, “Don’t be un-awesome! …Oh, god, I’m starting to sound like you, Gil. …Right, I’m going to get dressed and then I’ll come and make some breakfast, okay?”
“Danke, ________,” both brothers say, so you leave the room.
“Here, West,” Gilbert says, handing Ludwig another card, “Alles Gute zum Geburtstag.”
The two of them sit on the couch as he opens the cards from both of you, money dropping out and drifting to the floor. Ludwig picks it up and smiles at his older brother, “Danke, Gil.”
“You’re velcome, bruder.”
“…You’re awesome, you know zhat?” Ludwig says, smirking.
Gilbert sighs, happily, “Ja, I know.”
“Und you’re big headed, too,” he adds, but then shakes his head, “Ich hab dich lieb, bruder.”
“Ich had dich lieb,” he replies, standing up and ruffling Ludwig’s hair before he joins you upstairs.
“Well, sounds like somebody’s being awesome,” you say, winking at him and you finish dressing.
“Ah, you heard zhat, huh?” he asks.
You nod, “Of course. I listen to things.” You walk over to him and wrap your arms around his waist, pressing a kiss on his lips, “Y’know, you’re definitely an awesome big brother.”
“Zhat’s nice of you to say so, liebe. Anyvay, let’s go und eat so ve can get zhis day started! Ve’re going to get him sooo drunk!”
“…Brothers aren’t meant to encourage drinking. They’re meant to give good advice,” you say, raising an eyebrow.
“Ja, vell, zhat’s vhy I’m zhe most awesome big bruder!” He suddenly ducks down infront of you and puts you over his shoulder, you yelling at him and laughing loudly as he shouts, "Onward to breakfast und zhen alcohol!" before running out of the room.

:iconyayprussiaplz: Like, omigosh! You so totally need to write another one of these PrussiaXReader fics. Everytime I read the reader's dialogue, I can instantly imagine myself saying all of it. It's just so, like, me! (That and I fangirl over Prussia so, so hard. (That's what she said XD))

Ahah well, when I'm done with all of my work and have free time, I actually have a Prussia request that I will be doing! I'm glad you like them, though! --Except, next time I won't be writing in the accent. I don't like doing that, I just gave it a go for this.. XD

Stare  YUS!

Also, there's nothing that says you have to write dialogue with accents, anyway. I always read it in the character's accent regardless, though.

Yeah, I usually write without the accent and read it with, but I thought I'd try it out and didn't like it. I couldn't be bothered to change it, though XD
